At wedding receptions I try to take most of my photos with a telephoto lense (canon 70-200 F/2.8 L IS). I find that as soon as a child sees a camera they turn, pose and give you that cheesy little grin. Some of those pictures are great but I find the pictures taken when they don’t know it are priceless. Everytime you see a group of cars and people you know someone spotted some sort of animal. On this occasion we were on a road above a little canyon with a river running through it. Everyone was watching a female Elk out in the middle of this river. What most people didn’t see were the two baby elk calves on the other side.

Grand Tetons Moutain Range. We went to Yellowstone the last week of June 2009. It’s been a very rainy year. Our luck was pretty good until we were heading home through Teton National Park. We stopped at Jenny Lake where you can catch a boat to the other side of the lake and hike up to Hidden Falls, It was $10.00 round trip and well worth it. There had been a big black cloud just hanging on the tip of the Tetons for hours. The waterfalls were beautiful and I was lucky to find a family of Yellow-bellied Marmots to take picture of (to see those go to www.cranestudioimaging.com ) On the way back across the lake the wind picked up and it started to hail. You should have seen us scrambling to get the camera and lenses into the backpack just in time before the sky opened up and we got drenched. After getting off the boat we still had to run a 1/4 mile in the rain to the car. Unfortunately it then continued to rain until we drove over Teton pass.

This is the Timoleague Abbey in Cork Co., Ireland. In 2008 my daughter and I went on an Irish Rock tour with the Young Dubliners. It was so much fun! We started in Dublin and made our way around the southern end of the island stopping in places like Waterford, Kinsale and Limmerick. We ended the tour in Shannon. The Young Dubliners are my favorite band. They put a rock twist on some old Irish favorites and write some awesome original material as well. Check them and their new CD “Sinners and Saints” out at www.youngdubliners.com

Here are some Bisons standing in a row. Photographed in Yellowstone National Park in June 2009. I will admit that a lot of my animal pictures are taken with my Canon 100-400 lense. It gets me close enough to get a great photo but not scare me or the animals away. I’d just like to let you know that some of the Bison pictures I took were way up close and personal. We were walking into a spring and the trail just happened to lead through an entire herd of Bison! I was able to get some great pictures and thank goodness the Bison didn’t seem to mind. When we returned to our cabin that same night we heard on the news about a lady who was just using a pay phone on the side of the road was charged and tossed by an angry Bison. It made me go “hhhhhmmmmm…” and I avoided payphones for the rest of the trip.
