I have had quite a few clients ask this question about what packages they should get. Back before digital there wasn’t a question since paper prints were the only way to go. Now with the digital camera images it opens a whole new way of viewing your photographic memories.

Most people think that digital packages are the best for them because they get all their photos on CD and get to print them on their own and have a better choice in photos and they can pick them at their leisure. In reality most of the CDs are only a viewed a few times and then put away on the shelf and they never get any pictures printed for friends and family to put up in their homes or offices. Now I have suggested to some people going this route is that I will add in to the price of the package a 15 inch digital picture frame that they can hang, put up on a table, or desk and have the ability to give their family and friends and great slide show presentation. Some of the pictures frames even have email and wireless capabilities where I can email new photos from their photo sessions directly to their digital picture frames.

Now the paper print packages are good for some people who want something tangible to hold and look at. I know some grandparents who don’t want to have to look at their grandkids faces on the computer or TV, they want something to hold in their hands and show their friends. We at Crane Studio Imaging outsource all our lab work to professional lab that goes through every picture we send them by hand to make sure all the colors are going to as vibrant as on the day they were taken. Your local kiosk, Wal-Mart, or Costco does not do this. They have computer software that can do enhancing on the prints but it is hit and miss but a live person taking the time to do it makes sure it is correct. These labs can also print on metallic paper which really makes outdoor photos pop out of the photograph. If you have not seen a metallic photo I can show you several samples during the session so you know what type of paper you want for your print.

Print prices from photographers are more expensive than your local print your own places but you have to consider your paying for the time, copyright, and expertise to deliver a perfect photo from the photographers to their pro lab and finally a masterpiece for your wall or desk. Photographers spend more time processing your photos for your viewing than they spend photographing your session so their work does not end when they zip up the camera bag and go home because the next step of pre and post processing is where they take that raw photo and turn it into a work of art. I will be doing another article about the work flow of a photographer in my next blog so stay tuned.

I have had several people who have purchased digital packages that have come back to their albums online and purchase prints from their session because the sample quality that I showed them in some demo prints of their session did not come close to what they had gotten done locally. This is the primary reason why we retained the print packages instead of going to all digital photo package formats.

So if you are looking for senior, portrait, headshots, or weddings look no farther. You can send me a direct email to lisa@cranestudioimaging.com.

So thanks to photosister.com and blackrapid.com I was one of the proud winners of the brand new RS-W1 strap for women. So I finally got it in the mail a few weeks ago and I wanted to try it out on a few weddings before I write the review. Now I have been using Blackrapid straps for a few years now. I have a RS-4, RS-5, RS-7, and the double strap. All really comfortable straps carrying around my favorite Canon 70-200 mm 2.8 IS USM. As most know this is a pretty heavy lens but I love shooting with it. The strap really saves your neck carrying heavy lenses.

On to the review about the RS-W1 at first glance I noticed the flowery design on pads and the curve of the front pad. So I put it on to make the adjustments and it was pretty easy to get everything to where I liked it. So I snap in my canon 5d Mark II and my 70-200 2.8 lens onto the connector and let it hang away. The strap fits right in the middle of the chest perfectly. There was an additional comfort using this strap than the previous RS-7 that I normally use because nothing was getting squished. I do like the new fastneR-3 they are using on all the straps now, its all one piece of metal which makes me feel more secure nothing is going to snap off.

So after shooting two weddings with the strap I rate it an excellent strap for all women out there. A defintie A++ for comfort and reliability. I did notice that the new design does relieve some pressure on my back while shooting.

One other thing I forgot to mention was thier customer service is incredible. I had an issue with my connector on my rs-7 strap and they sent me out a new strap in the mail the next day. Their customer service is top rate and they really stand behind their product.

Great strap Blackrapid and thanks again.

Well I just got off the phone with the doctor at the All Valley Animal Hospital in Meridian. We discussed the different types of surgery for ACL injuries and have decided to go with the less invasive and newer surgery of the TTA as it does not cut the weight bearing bone. They are going to have to keep her for up to 48 hours for pain control. The doctor gave me a lot of confidence that this was the right way to go. I already know now that I am going to be concerned about her the whole time and I’ll probably end up calling the hospital a dozen times to check on how she is doing.

UPDATE 07/21/2010: Surgery went really well. Vet says she is doing great and she is coming home today.

So I know this has nothing to do with photography but I wanted to reach out to my readers who may have had similiar issues with their dogs. The other day we were out playing fetch and she came back to me with the ball limping. I thought she may have twisted her leg or something. So I waited a few days and she didn’t look like she was getting better so I took her into the vet today to see what was going on. After some tests they determined that its a definite ACL injury and if its not treated the other ACL may go out soon because she is putting all her weight on the other leg. She weighs about 100 pounds so she is a big girl. I have read many stories about vets always saying surgery is needed but I have gone to this vet for years and have a lot of trust in their opinions. The vet even refered me to a specialist in Sun Valley Idaho who is a bit cheaper and does this type of orthopedic surgery all day long. I am getting many estimates for surgery costs on the high end $3000.00 and on the low end coming in about $900.00 depending on the type of surgery. I guess there are 3 different ways to repair an ACL injury and all with different costs. Dakota is a very active girl and I want to give her back her freedom to run around and have a pain free life. There are websites out there who say don’t rush the surgery see what happens and others saying do the surgery now to prevent other injuries to the other side. I tend to believe she might damage the other ACL if I wait to long. She is also very young she is only 2 1/2 years old. So if anyone has any information at all from experience with their own dog it would be greatly appreciated.

Well what can I say about blackrapid. They make a great strap, I own most of their straps and whenever I am out I have people ask me all the time about the strap. When I was vacationing in Yellowstone I spent a lot of time talking to people about the strap and people were so impressed on how it worked and how easy it was to carry larger lenses. I felt like I was a rep for blackrapid. Being a women the only issue I had with the straps that it didn’t fit around the chest area properly for obvious reasons. I was always adjusting things but the use of the strap made my life so much easier so it was a small cross the carry.

Finally they came out with the RS-W1 strap from blackrapid.com. I have not had a chance to review it but another female photographer over at photosister.com got a chance to try it out and its perfect for women. So ladies if you are looking for a good camera strap you want to go to blackrapid.com and order the RS-W1 now. As soon as I get mine I will give a better review but I wanted to thank Blackrapid.com and photosister.com for a great contest they ran and for a wonderful design on a strap made for women.

I would just like to thank and congratulate on behlaf of Crane Studio Imaging all the happy treasure valley couples that I have photographed in past few months on thier wedding day. I am glad I was able to experience your special day with you.

For you future bride and grooms out there we still have some slots available this year. We are also available for short notice photography if for some reason you decide your going to get married at the court house or a quickie ceremony we can still be there to capture your special day. There is no reason not to have your day photographed whether it be a 30 minute ceremony or a complete 8 hour wedding. We also provide short notice emergency photography for your wedding or event in case something happens to your primary photographer. I keep at least one standby photographer on call during the weekends to provide this service at no extra cost than our standard rates. The best way to contact me via phone through the contact info on my webpage.
